"ajnslp" is an acronym for Angela Joy Neal, Speech-Language Pathologist. I kept my middle name when I got married as opposed to keeping my maiden name. I felt like "Joy" was just such a part of who I am. My father actually named me as soon as he saw me, he said... 'She looks like an 'Angel of Joy' and so that is how I became "Angela Joy".
The "Neal" part I picked up from my husband. We got married in Hawaii on the island of Kauai on a little beach-side cliff. It was amazing, the most beautiful "church" I have ever been to. My husband keeps me very grounded, as I tend to get a little "touchy-feely".
My children, Sullivan and McKenzie, are pictured in the "Wishes for a Lifetime" piece. They are my joy and my inspiration (see "Wishing Flowers"). I miss them all the time when I am not with them, even when they are asleep. They invite imagination, humor and unique perspective to everything that I do and give me the gift of new experiences by seeing the world through their eyes.
I am a speech-language pathologist and very passionate about my work. I am blessed to have a job that I enjoy going to everyday (well, most days). I have an undergraduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Columbia College, Columbia, SC and a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from San Francisco State Univeristy, San Francisco, California.
Writing is a creative outlet for me that I have enjoyed ever since I was very young. As a speech-language pathologist, I am ever mindful of the connection between spoken and written language and the power we all have to communicate. One of my favorite quotes about writing is... "The role of a writer is not to say what we can all say, but what we are unable to say" (Anais Nin). I hope that you will enjoy this blog and find a few things I may have been able to put into words for you, that you have always felt in your heart.
